Corporate decarbonisation :

Solarise Hall

With corporates accounting for 51% of total power consumption in the country, they represent a huge untapped opportunity for decarbonisation. The government has introduced, enabling policies and regulations, but teething issues continue for on-ground implementation. Many corporates seek new and emerging procurement instruments like VPPAs but desire long-term clarity and policy stability. Corporates can make significant contribution towards achievement of 500 GW renewable power capacity targets and reducing GHG emissions.

Growth Pipeline Acceleration in Cold Chain Logistics

Blossom Hall

India is the largest supplier of global vaccination demand having a share of 60%. A strong growth trend is expected to boost the Indian pharmaceutical market revenue by more than 12% Y-o-Y in FY23. India is also the world's largest supplier of generic medications accounting for 21% of the worldwide supply by volume. Pharma accounts for a significant export revenue for India.
Food Processing sector has been growing at a CAGR of around 11.62%. The Government of India has accorded high priority status to the food industry with an objective to reduce inefficiencies resulting in losses.
Both Industries need a strong backbone of Cold Chain Solutions to flourish. A Huge Market lies vacant for Large, Medium, and Small Enterprises, Start-Ups to innovate and bring Technology backed frugal solutions tailored to meet local requirements.

Key pointers of discussion : -

  1. Industry Pain Points and Requirements.
  2. How to Accelerate Cold Chain Infrastructure in India?
  3. For a Country where 80% of warehouse space is less than 30K Sq feet, is it feasible for SMEs to play a part in these solutions?
  4. Localization of Equipment/ Capex used in Cold Chain solutions.
  5. Technology as a key enabler for a Frugal solution

NHEV to Consume Solar Power on 5500 KM for Clean Transport

Solarise Hall

E-highways are green only when they are powered by renewable. Electricity consumed by EVs is generated from various sources, and electric vehicles must be powered by renewables to achieve net zero. Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, and we anticipate that in the coming years, nearly everyone who owns an Electric vehicle system will install a solar charging station in their home. But this will necessitate a fundamental need only. A large volume of commercial passenger and freight vehicles will still be dependent on charging stations for refuelling/recharging.

Depending on the availability of various modes and forms of contractual and bi-directional arrangements, NHEV Charging Stations typically require 3 MW on a 5500 KM e-highway after each 50 KM. It makes NHEV one of the biggest transitions from fossil fuels to renewable energy in national consumption of surface transport with electric mobility and green hydrogen dispensing capabilities.

Scaling up clean power financing: Challenges and Opportunities

Solarise Hall

Opportunities for Clean Power Financing though :

  • Growing Demand and Government Auctions
  • Technological Advancements through continuous innovation and cost reduction in renewable energy technologies
  • Energy Storage Integration: As energy storage becomes more prevalent, lenders and borrowers can explore financing opportunities for integrated projects that offer consistent power supply and grid stability.
  • Corporate Sustainability Goals: Many corporations are increasingly setting sustainability targets, including transitioning to renewable energy sources. Clean power financing provides a means for businesses to achieve their environmental objectives while also demonstrating their commitment to ESG principles, attracting investors and favorable lending terms.

Challenges for Clean Power Financing :
Rising Interest Rates,  Currency Depreciation, Equipment Supply Chain Risks

Responses from Lenders and Borrowers:
Risk Mitigation Strategies,  Diversification of Funding Sources,  Collaboration with Governments

Scaling-Up Fundraising Volume:
Simplified Project Approval Processes,  Financial Incentives,  Standardization and Transparency, Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing

Clean power financing presents both challenges and opportunities for lenders and borrowers. While rising interest rates, currency depreciation, and equipment supply chain risks pose challenges, growing demand, technological advancements, and government auctions offer attractive opportunities. To scale up the volume of fundraising, stakeholders can respond to these trends by implementing risk mitigation strategies, diversifying funding sources, and collaborating with governments. Additionally, simplifying project approval processes, providing financial incentives, promoting transparency, and enhancing capacity building can contribute to accelerating clean power financing and advancing the transition to a sustainable energy future.

Topic: Agrivoltaics: Exploring AgriPV Potential in India

The concept of 'AgriPV' or 'Agrivoltaics' or ‘Solar sharing’ is a combined use of an area for agricultural crop production (photosynthesis) and PV electricity production (photovoltaics) in progressive nations such as Germany, Japan, and Italy. Starting with annual targets in MW as of 2023 and marching towards potential GW targets until 2030. This innovative approach is now being actively explored in the dynamic landscape of India. In this context, it is imperative to address a key question: What does 'AgriPV' mean in the Indian context and guide developers, farmers and institutions the process in line with the definition of Agriphotovoltaics.

The session will focus on the following key issues :

  • Aspects for defining APV in India
  • Possible business models and implementations in India
  • Legal aspects and their relevance for land conversion policies

Polysilicon to energy: ensuring a future proof PV supply chain for India

India has long placed among the world’s largest markets for solar installations and is now expanding its domestic manufacturing capacity to meet this demand. Policies are in place, and investments are being made, to foster the development of a localized PV supply chain covering everything from raw materials to finished PV modules and the electricity they generate.

As a relative newcomer to gigawatt-scale PV manufacturing, India must aim high and take careful steps to compete with players in more established regions. Vertical integration is seen as an effective strategy to buffer shifting market forces. Whether processing polysilicon ingots and wafers, or in the final stages of PV module assembly; high-yield, highly efficient processes that adopt the latest cell and module innovations are keys to success.
